I’m happy to be part of the Creative Inc. blog tour organized by Chronicle Books and would like to welcome both authors to decor8 today! Co-written by Joy Cho and Meg Mateo Ilasco , Creative Inc. is a helpful, supportive and compact guide (great to carry around!) for those who are looking to either go freelance or who have recently jumped into a freelance career in a creative field. It’s also helpful for the seasoned pros out there...

Confession time! I’ve been a bit moody when it comes to posting this week, I know, but it’s work related deadlines I promise! Truth is, the book I’m working on has me on deadline — at the moment I’m writing and drawing up lots of floor plans for the book designer. No one likes a late Lucille so I have to get on it, man! I’m not complainin’, just explainin’ since you deserve to know where your fickle...

I’m delighted to share the work of English illustrator Alice Melvin today. Alice grew up in northeast England but today calls Edinburgh, Scotland her home – a place I long to travel to since Scotland has long fascinated me. Her work is inspired by a love of creatures both on land and in the sky along with text and pattern and everyday objects like teacups. How nice. Alice adores paper and the process of screen printing images by...

I’m so impressed and feeling quite creative after reviewing my mile long list of “people to blog” because I have collected many amazing creatives out there that I can’t wait to share with you over the next few weeks! I have to show you the work of Swedish photographer Pia Ulin today. And while I’m at it, I’m going to share some …  Read More →

This is product styling perfection in my book. It’s gorgeous. I love seeing wallpaper coming out of a typewriter — so unique. But then again, I’m not surprised as Ferm Living is one of the most inspirational home decor company out there today. Love them! Here are some more lovely shots from Ferm that I think are quite pretty, too. And look at all of these gorgeous knit vessels and gold and white cups and, and, AND! Just look...

Canadian House & Home (a lovely magazine that I miss since moving to the other side of the world!) is hosting their annual Design Contest once again. This is one winning entry from last year that I loved – the bathroom is gorgeous, don’t you think? I adore the graphic floral wallpaper in black and white, so fresh and clean, with that red chair adding just the perfect bit of color to break things up. It’s a truly lovely...

I was just talking about how I want to decorate my bedroom first when I move over on haus maus since I’ve been pulling together interior inspiration in binders and in file folders on my desktop…. You know, all of the beginnings of any decor project! And I was thinking about all of the little details that really MAKE a room. It’s so exciting to move and have all of these visions in my mind soon to be realized but it’s...

Anyone who reads this blog knows that I have a giant girl crush on author/tv presenter/blogger/teacher/stylist/decorator/columist/and a million other amazing hats Shannon Fricke in Australia. I’ve been a fan of her work for a few years now and follow her blog religiously because she is such a breath of fresh, unpretentious air! You don’t always find that with multi-talented people, but with Shannon you do. She’s not only one...

I’ve talked about Cloud 9 Fabrics by Michelle Engel Bencsko and Gina Pantastico before but this! just! in! she has a new collection that will soon be on sale (shipping in October) that I have to give you a heads up on. If you are designing for a children’s room or simply young at heart, you may really adore these organic fabrics. These patterns are so cute and they are from the My Happy Nursery collection. The little elephants with...

The movers came! The movers came! They gave us an estimate on our October 1st move and I’m thrilled because it’s a little under budget and that is always a good thing. So it’s done, we are packing during the month of September and heading around the corner to our new place. I can’t wait. Okay that’s the understatement of the year. I CAN’T WAIT. That’s better. It needed to be all in caps because…  Read More →

I just received the September issue of Sew magazine (UK) because I am featured in it on page 49 ( see it here ) thanks to the lovely Nikki. Yay! I’ve never been in a sewing magazine outside of Selvedge before, so it’s an exciting new group of readers to be introduced to. While reading the issue I discovered a collage artist who uses photographs, paint and textiles for her mixed media work and I just have to share her creative mixing…...

Take what you need and leave the rest. Let’s discuss. I like this expression because in an effort to live a bit more simply, some of us work extra hard to tame our wild shopping ways. It’s a challenge to purchase only what we love, what we need and what matters (and not something because it is trendy or on sale). Take What You Need And Leave The Rest. Words to live by, not just a casual expression but also a dreamy painting by artist...

Hello friends, it is Leslie here with my latest Color Me Pretty series. This time around I got really inspired by navy, straw, salmon, a little lemon, a little wood and denim. These colors work well together in clothing and I found myself tearing out images from the early summer catalogs of J.Crew , Madewell and Noa Noa to include in my mood boards. Don’t you think clothing catalogs can be a treasure trove for ideas about color and texture?...

I was so pleased when talented surface pattern designer Katja Behre from Elli Popp wrote in to share her latest neo-romantic wallpaper collection. I couldn’t wait to receive images from her to put on decor8 and since they just arrived last night, here are about 25,000 of them for you to enjoy along with me. Pretty things so rock. In addition to all of this gorgeous wallpaper, Katja designs ceramics and fabrics as well (yeah, can you...
